It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like......

I am beginning it to think that things are starting to unravel in Iraq. First, there is Prime Minister of Iraq, Nouri al-Maliki paying a friendly visit to Iran and Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who, smiling like the jackal he is, announced to Iraq and the world that Iraq can be a partner with Iran and can depend on Iran for its security in the future. Never mind that Iran, the chief sponsor of terrorist activity in Iraq, are the very people who are supplying all of the ammunition and bomb making materials that are killing Iraqis by the score on a daily basis. This meeting does not bode well for any US intentions in Iraq. Remember that it was only weeks ago that Maliki refused to denounce Hezbollah in the Israeli-Lebanon conflict.

Then we learn that the judge in the Saddam Hussein trial gives comfort to Saddam with his opinion that Saddam was not a dictator, that only the people around Saddam made him a dictator. Word is that we are now trying to get this judge removed from the trial. It seems more and more that those in power in Iraq are now moving away from official US positions and are making it even tougher to generate sufficient American public opinion in support of our efforts there. Even loyal supporters of the Bush Administration will now be wondering if it is all worth while if, in fact, Iraq will climb right into bed with Iran and if we can’t even get an Iraqi court to convict Saddam. Now that would be a real defeat in the war on terror.
