State of the Union 2008

Just a few observations as the President gives his speech:

The gamesmanship at these addresses is funny.  One side gets up, the other stays down. Dems have to look at one another wondering "should we stand up or stay down?  Do we applaud or not?" The Dems look for leadership and none is to be found.  I have a suggestion for confused Dems, check out Leiberman.

Good line. "Over the last year we have killed hundreds of al-Qaeda leaders and operatives." No applause.

I applauded.

Bush thanks the troops for their hard work and sacrifice. Both sides of the aisle rise and hail the troops. Then,
Bush asks to fully fund the troops. Republicans lustily lead the cheers. Dems look at one another and one by one slowly and reluctantly rise, shifting from one foot to the other. Pathetic.

Bush is talking about success in Iraq. Pelosi is reading "People Magazine".

The subject of Iran comes up. Many Dems head for the lavatory.  Bush says we will defend our interest in the Persian Gulf. The Republicans rise in unison, the Dems are doing the "Wave".

Bush asks for an increase in funding to prevent the spread of AIDS.  Gay lobby makes Pelosi jump.

"We the People" Bush says we need to trust the people to run their own lives and keep government intervention minimal.  Dems have no clue what he's talking about.

Speech over. Analysis begins.  Dem response will be predictable.
